Our homemade meatballs are great fresh, and just as good frozen โ meaning you can batch bake and serve this recipe multiple times over the course of a few weeks or months.
Highlights
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Serves: ~30 meatballs
Make Ahead? – Absolutely!
Freezer Friendly? – Please do!
Substitutions? – If you don’t love a beef and pork combination you can easily double up on one protein (2 lbs). You can also swap in turkey as your preferred protein as well! I like to mix up the Italian seasoning with whatever I have on hand; you can swap it out every time you make these meatballs until you find your favorite combination.
Ingredients List
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup fine breadcrumbs (Italian style is preferable but work with what you have)
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 tsps Italian seasoning of your choice (e.g., parsley, oregano, rosemary, thyme etc)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 jar of red sauce (your choice!)
- 1 lb of pasta
Recipe: Pasta with Homemade Meatballs
- Pre-heat the oven to 375ยฐF. Lightly coat two 15×10 inch baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, lightly beat two eggs.
- Stir in the breadcrumbs and the next five ingredients (through Italian seasoning).
- Add 1 lb each of the ground beef and ground pork. Mix well or use your hands to make sure all ingredients are incorporated.
- Roll mixture into 1-inch meatballs, and place on prepared sheets.
- Bake 12-15 minutes total, turning the meatballs halfway through cook time.
- In the meantime, if you are planning to eat the meatballs today, start boiling 6 cups of water in a fresh pot on the stove.
- When the water is boiling, add pasta and cook as directed.
- Serve meatballs on top of pasta with sauce of your choice. Check out this homemade sauce recipe to enhance your meal!
Family Tips
- This recipe yields a lot of meatballs so you can use them same-day/week or freeze in an airtight container for additional meals later.
- I love quickly thawing the meatballs in the microwave (~2 minutes) or on the stovetop with some sauce to create a fast meatball sandwich, or chop up for our daughter as a quick lunch option!
